Our story

Built in Timor-Leste, for Timor-Leste.

SOTCoin is a digital wallet from Oftimor — a small Dili-based team building the financial infrastructure the country deserves.

Our mission

Financial infrastructure Timor-Leste deserves — locally-built, transparent, and inclusive from day one.

The basic act of moving money around Timor-Leste is harder than it should be. Cash dominates day-to-day life, bank reach is limited outside Dili, and most fintech apps were never designed with this country in mind. We started SOTCoin because we thought we could do better — and because we believed it had to be built here, by people who live with the same friction every day. Today the wallet is live across the country. You can send money to family, top up phone credit on any of the three telcos, buy an eSIM, pay merchants by QR or tap, send remittances abroad, and pool funds in family groups. Cards, savings, investments, multi-currency, and payroll are next on the roadmap.

The team

A small Dili-based crew, founded by Daniel Fankhauser.

SOTCoin is built by a small team based in Dili. The company was founded by Daniel Fankhauser, who runs day-to-day product and engineering alongside a tight group of operators, designers, and customer-facing people — most of whom are local. We work closely with partner banks, telcos, and merchants across Timor-Leste, and we have a small set of remote contributors in adjacent timezones where their work fits the rhythm of a Dili day. We are deliberately small. Everyone here ships, talks to users, and is close to the product. We would rather be useful to the country than fast for its own sake.
What we believe

Four values, every day

Local-first

Built in Dili, by people who use the wallet themselves. Decisions are made by people who understand the context — not bolted on from elsewhere.

Transparent

Clear pricing, no hidden fees between SOTCoin accounts, and a public roadmap of what’s coming next.

Builder-friendly

One wallet, every Oftimor service. Partners, merchants, and developers can plug in without lock-in or gatekeeping.

Inclusive

Tetum, Portuguese, and English from day one — because financial access starts with being understood in your own language.

Part of the wider Oftimor network

SOTCoin is the financial layer connecting a family of Timor-focused platforms — each one solving a real local problem.
